N493DB is a very special aircraft. Starting with the magnificent design by Richard Van Grunsven and constructed from a Van’s Aircraft kit, no expense was spared on this beautiful aircraft. The builder used a professionally constructed spar and invested an additional 5000 hours and more than $50,000 in cold, hard cash. The result: a perfect first flight and a continuous RV-grin ever sense. Feet on the floor, hands off cruise at 170 knots, or over the top and upside down to relieve office stress, or precision approach to minimums, this aircraft can do it all.

Everyone has heard how well Van’s aircraft perform. This aircraft has some options that put it in that very special class. Options like 230 horses up front, inverted fuel and oil, Digital Map and HSI, and custom paint design set this aircraft apart.

Lycoming IO360 with High Compression pistons and Constant Speed Propeller launch this aircraft in spectacular style. Yet, leaned back in cruise, fuel use drops to 8 to 10 GPH for very respectable crosscountry legs. How about 3000 ft/min off the deck? How about Crystal airport (Minneapolis) to Scottsdale (Phoenix) in 8.5 hours into a head wind including two fuel stops? Every takeoff is spectacular. Every flight is a delight.

Inverted fuel and Oil extend the range of this aircraft to all the fun corners. Recreational aerobatics are easy and fun. After appropriate aerobatic training it is time to try a roll. Fifteen degrees nose up then stick over and around it goes. Or how about a loop? No need to dive this one. Just add power and come back on the stick. Once on top, off on the power and follow the loop around with the stick back to level flight. Stalls and spins, more grins. This is fun!
